Martial Arts Seminars
A Four Weekend Intensive
(Sundays – 1-4 pm)
250-777-1248
“The best defense is an overwhelming offense!”
If you are a martial artist, or are interested in becoming very effective at self-protection,
cross-training and a personalized skillset are essential.
This series of workshops is designed to guide you through the most efficient and effective strategies and tactics to survive physical violence.
Your instructor, Dr. Michael Smith, has over 45 years of experience as a martial artist, and over 30 years of experience training front-line professionals in tactical violence, edged and improvised weapons, and ancient practices for maximizing your physical and mental potential.
Michael is one of the most sought-after combative instructors because of his ability to help inexperienced people and professionals become more willing and able to move into and through harm’s way.
Cross Training
Each seminar focuses on partner drills, beginning with Kali stick patterns, then partner knife work, followed by
empty hand skills, and then some internal awareness practices to ensure your body memory retains everything you have learned.
Seminar One
Sunday, June 9
1 – 4 pm
Stick Fighting is not about Fighting with Sticks
There is something primal about holding a weapon.
The danger of ‘going primal’ is using any weapon, including your hands, like a club or a rock. Training with Kali sticks is an opportunity to train for distance, timing, targets, limb control, weapon disarms, and whole-body power development.
Seminar Two
Sunday, June 16
1 – 4 pm
Knife Fighting and The Six Minds of a Blade
Learning all of the ways a knife can be used teaches you all of the ways to defend against one. Knife fighting, and the ways that your mind learns to move through a blade, can reawaken an instinctual dexterity that applies to every other aspect of combat, and many aspects of life. This skill set will also cure you of any fantasies about what is possible in the real world.
Seminar Three
Sunday, June 23
1 – 4 pm
Tactical Violence is Terrifying
When you are tactically trained you never block!
Every hand placement, every weight shift, and every movement is one moment closer to victory! Tactical Violence is a very effective and brutally honest solution to any kind of fight. You must take their weapons (limbs), dominate the initiative, then take their structure, and remove their will and ability to keep fighting.
“Defending yourself, by definition, means you are already losing!”
Seminar Four
Sunday, June 30
1 – 4 pm
Moving Instinctually Relies on Mind/Body Awareness
The more connected you are with your body and your instincts, the better your chances are in any emergency.
It takes time and skillful training to move with visceral intensity, to keep your balance, and your wits, while also dealing with the chaos and momentum of a life or death instinctual viollence. The Internal Martial Arts (Tai Chi, Ba Gua, Xing Yi, Zi Ran Men, Yi Chuan) are unique in their focus on what is happening inside of you and your body while you train. These styles also focus on the partner practice of Push Hands, one the safest approaches to sparring.
