I’ll be honest, the letters from Clerkin, Sinclair & Mahfouz, LLP have been stressing me out. They use legal language that makes it sound like I am about to get sued, but I still do not fully understand what the claim is even about. Something about subrogation and an accident I barely remember. They keep calling and the voicemails sound urgent.

I almost made the mistake of calling back and trying to explain myself, but a friend told me to hold off. I found this article that explains the first step is not to admit anything over the phone. Instead, you need to identify the client name, the claim number, the date of loss, and whether your insurance should be handling it. That was a wake up call because I never even thought about involving my insurance.

The article also said that Clerkin, Sinclair & Mahfouz, LLP is more about legal claims and subrogation than normal debt collection, so responding the wrong way could hurt me. I am still nervous about the deadline on the letter, but I am trying to gather my documents first.

Here is the guide I am using if anyone else is in the same spot:

Has anyone here actually dealt with their deadline before? Did you call them or just send everything through your insurance? I could really use some real world advice right now.
